About Marla
Welcome! I'm Marla Brown, and I call the American Southwest my home.
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, my journey to becoming a photographer and blog writer is far from straightforward. I made my living in the business world over the years and started traveling more often about 15 years ago.
My love for travel takes me to countries rich in culture and history. I am continually drawn to places unlike mine, whether close to home or across the ocean. We don't have to go far.
I also believe that we are all storytellers through images, captions, blog posts, and language. I hope to bring you thoughtful and intentional stories that embrace diversity and complexity while avoiding environmental or social harm to the host community.
Many of my stories will focus on the positives. Still, I also believe it is essential to discuss what the local communities deal with regarding the economy, environment, and social issues.
Seeking A New Way To Travel - Sustainably
Travel leaves a footprint, whether plastic, carbon or a social impact. I aim to learn to travel more sustainably, perhaps slower, in a way that benefits more people and our precious, delicate earth.
I know that travel is also an act of privilege. I aim to be more humble, curious, empathetic, hopeful, and still. There is so much we can learn from each other.
Ocean Conservation - A Personal Passion
I am concerned about the condition of our oceans. Human consumption, pollution, and climate change have heavily impacted them.
To make a difference in ocean conservation, I donate 100% of the sales from my Art Shop to top-rated ocean conservation organizations that do the heavy lifting for us all. This is my way of supporting those working hard to protect our oceans. Learn more here.
XOXO
