Responsible Travel Photography
We travel to places that are people's homes. We visit villages, towns, and cities where people work, live, and raise their children. As a responsible traveler, it is best to practice patience, courtesy, and respect for the local people and their country. Here are a few ideas for photographing people when you travel.

Learn About The Culture
Travel begins before we leave home. Learning cultural norms and taboos when it comes to interacting is important. Especially indigenous people.

Say Their Name & Engage
Introduce yourself to the people you would like to photograph and engage.
Say their name and don't sneak shots.

Learn Some Language
If you are traveling to a country where your native language isn't spoken, a few travel phrases go a long way. Learn as much as you can before you go.

Buy Something
If you are wanting to take a photo of someone who is selling something, make a purchase. It shows mutual gratitude and respect.

Smile
A smile, nod, or gentle bow can go a long way. Again, know the culture before you go and what is acceptable.

Always Ask Permission
There is a good philosophy, especially photographing children, and that is to ask permisson to make a photo.
Would you be okay with someone photographing your child?
